  • The Argentine Pampas, one of the main agricultural areas in the world,
recently has undergone significant changes in land use and structural
characteristics of agricultural production systems. Concerns about the
environmental and societal impacts of the changes motivated development
of an agent-based model (ABM) to gain insight on processes underlying
    recent observed patterns.

The Decision and Information Sciences Division hosts numerous training courses, conferences, and many other seminars throughout the year.

Next expected in March of 2014

Training Course: Application of the ASME Code to Radioactive Material Transportation Packaging

The goal of the course is to provide guidance for the application of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code to packaging for the transportation of high-level radioactive materials or fissile materials. The course objective is to facilitate the design, fabrication, examination, and testing of a packaging that meets all the applicable ASME Code requirements and all the governing federal requirements and regulations. Course information.

May 20-24, 2013

Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation: Useful, Usable, and Used Techniques

For the past 10 years, Argonne, in conjunction with other institutions, has conducted an annual one-week course that includes an intensive business applications-oriented introduction to agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) based on Michael North and Charles Macal's book Managing Business Complexity: Discovering Strategic Solutions with Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation (Oxford 2007). The first half of the course focuses on ABMS concepts from the perspective of company managers and analysts. The second half of the course focuses on ABMS implementation from the perspective of company software developers and includes extensive hands-on exercises. Course description.

June 3-6, 2013

Advanced Repast Training Course

The Advanced Repast Training Course provides experienced developers with an in-depth, four day opportunity to expand their agent-based model implementation skills. The first three days of the course focus on advanced topics for Java-based Repast Simphony. The fourth day introduces C++-based Repast for High Performance Computing (Repast HPC). All four days will include extensive hands-on exercises demonstrating the course material. Course information.

June 25-27, 2013

Training Course: Quality Assurance for Radioactive Material Packaging

The purpose of the course is to provide QA training and practical experience for DOE personnel and contractors who are required to develop and implement a QA plan or prepare the QA chapter of a Safety Analysis Report for Packaging (SARP) for the control of design, fabrication, assembly, testing, maintenance, repair, modification, and use of the packaging. The course begins with instructions concerning basic QA principles and concepts, and quickly advances to packaging-specific information. Course information.

Develop innovative decision support tools, including simulation models, databases, and analytical methodologies that can be used to provide quantitative information to decision makers;

Apply
these tools to the analysis and solution of problems of national, local, and international significance; and

Transfer
these tools to the community of researchers and end users for their own implementation.
